Scientists have discovered one of the most massive exoplanets – “super-Earth”. Its surface is covered with molten magma, and a year lasts only half an Earth day, writes Space.com.

The found exoplanet was named TOI-1075 b, it was discovered thanks to observations made using the NASA Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) apparatus. As studies have shown, the surface of this super-Earth is heated to about 1050 degrees Celsius. The planet owes its “hot” weather to the proximity of the parent star, which is located 200 light years from Earth. In addition to the scorching heat, a year on the planet lasts only 14.5 hours. Scientists also note that TOI-1075 b is the most massive exoplanet of its class.

“Our data indicate that TOI-1075 b is the most massive super-Earth ever found on this moment,” NASA said in a statement.

It is noted that super-Earths are of particular interest to astronomers, since this type of planet is very common in the Milky Way, but is not found in the solar system.

Astronomers emphasize that if an open exoplanet were available for flights, then a person would its surface would weigh three times as much as on Earth. The thing is that TOI-1075 is almost 10 times more massive than the Earth, which means that the force of gravity there is much greater than the Earth's.

The planet was discovered using the transit method, when exoplanets pass in front of their stars and obscure them light. The NASA spacecraft scans the night sky looking for just such changes in the brightness of the stars.

It was this search method that allowed scientists to find 5,000 exoplanet candidates who are waiting for verification and confirmation of the data.

Experts from NASA say that TOI-1075 b can help understand the formation planets.

“In turn, this will allow us to predict what types of atmospheres can be found on super-Earths, as well as whether they have atmospheres at all,” NASA concluded.
