Minor Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who refused to travel because of their harm to the environment, arrived Tuesday in Portugal on the 15-metre catamaran. Footage of her arrival showed the newspaper El Pais.
Thunberg went ashore in Lisbon after the 21-day travel from the United States. On the shore of a teenage girl was met by the mayor of Lisbon. He assured her that local officials are committed to the struggle for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and preserving the purity of the environment. He also supported popularized by Greta Thunberg movement “School strike for climate” (“Friday for the future”), whose members organize protests on Friday and demand that politicians “swift and decisive action” to combat global warming.
From Portugal Greta Thunberg will go to Madrid to get to the 25-th conference of the UN framework Convention on climate change (COP25), which will run until December 13, reports TASS. It is expected that the activist will arrive in the Spanish capital on Wednesday morning by train. Earlier it was reported that the authorities of the Autonomous community of Extremadura in Spain has announced its readiness to allocate Thunberg electric car for the trip to Madrid.
“We will go to COP25 in Madrid and continue there fight. We are facing a global emergency. We need a comprehensive approach and we do our best to ensure the future of mankind. Everyone should do what he can to make the right historical choice,” said Greta.
It also asked what she can advise supporters who wish to travel but do not have the ability to cross ocean on a sailing boat, writes Expressen. Thunberg said that her swimming is just a message that tells that the time has come to change everyone and change their habits. “I can’t tell anyone how to travel. But of course there are more or less acceptable alternative,” she said.
Thunberg travelled to North America specifically to visit two major events, one of which was to become the UN conference on climate in December in Chile. In late October, Chilean President sebastián piñera announced the cancellation of the forum due to protests in the country, and the next day, the Spanish authorities proposed to hold the event in Madrid.
November 1, the Executive Secretary of the UN framework Convention on climate change, Patricia Espinosa announced that the conference will be held from 2 to 13 December in the Spanish capital. Then Thunberg asked supporters to help her to find transport to cross the Atlantic ocean. To take an activist in the TRANS-Atlantic voyage agreed Australian couple – a 35-year-old Riley Uitem and 26-year-old Ilayna Caruso. They are five years traveling around the world on a catamaran La Vagabonde and blog on Youtube. Sea travel went 11-month-old son a pair of lenny, a professional sailor Nicky Henderson and Greta’s father Svante Thunberg.
At a conference in Madrid, in particular, presented the report of the world meteorological organization. From this it follows that the last 10 years has consistently recorded a record average annual temperature. It is expected that 2019 will be in this series.
