Booker Prize winner 2022 announced

Critics called the book “a metaphysical thriller and afterlife noir that blurs the boundaries of different genres.”

Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka has won the 2022 Booker Prize for his second novel, The Seven Moons Of Maali Almeida. The information appeared on Instagram of the organizers of the award.

The writer won 50 thousand pounds sterling for a novel that describes the events of 1990 – the civil war in Sri Lanka, when the main character Maali Almeida wakes up dead, having no idea who killed him.

Karunatilaka himself noted, that his book is about the evils of corruption, racial harassment and nepotism.

“I hope that it will be read in Sri Lanka, which is learning from its history, and that “The Seven Moons Of Maali Almeida” will be in the department bookstore fantasy and… will not be mistaken for realism or political satire,” said Karuntilaka.
