The discovered bath has 2 round buildings with 14 baths in each. They could have cold or warm water. Archaeologists have also found a separate room for hot baths. Scientists also discovered an ancient water supply system. Water was supplied to the building from two large reservoirs. They received water from a single well.

But this is not the whole infrastructure. Marek Wozniak, assistant professor at the Institute of Mediterranean and Oriental Cultures of the Polish Academy of Sciences, suggests that a gymnasium was located west of the tanks. Probably, in Hellenistic times, this bath served as a resting place for military personnel.

Wozniak has been studying the remains of Berenice for a long time. They belong to the Hellenistic period of Ancient Egypt – from 323 to 30 BC. Between this period of time, Cleopatra VII and Alexander the Great died. At the same time, the Greek architectural style reigned in the Middle East.

During the construction of the bath, many troops were stationed in its area, and war elephants were also brought here. And before future operations, the crews could spend time in the bath – in Hellenistic times, they were a popular place for meetings and relaxation.

Excavations in Egypt will continue.
