The Hérault Medef is up in arms against the continued increase in the mobility payment, particularly in the Montpellier metropolitan area where “the increase should reach 6.5%” , underlines a press release from the employers' union. This levy, which weighs directly on companies in the area with more than 11 employees, “has already increased by 50.7% between 2014 and 2023, while the payroll has only increased by 35.9%” , specifies the Medef.
200% Deposit Bonus up to €3,000 180% First Deposit Bonus up to $20,000Business leaders are all the more angry because the Senate plans to create a regional mobility payment and an increase of 0.2% for SERM-labeled areas, which is the case in the Montpellier metropolitan area. “We are standing up against all these taxes that are piling up. It's the last straw. Today, it represents a charge of €643 per employee”, Jean-Marc Oluski, president of Medef Hérault, is indignant
Especially, he says, that these measures were decided without consultation with economic stakeholders: “It's good to finance free tram travel, says the president of the employers' union, but companies cannot always be the scapegoats for the financial imbalances of local authorities. Medef is calling on public authorities to review their copy to avoid harming competitiveness and employment”, he continues.
Julie Frêche, vice-president of the Métropole in charge of mobility, disputes the Medef figures: “The rate has not changed since 2011, it has remained at 2%. If the amount collected has increased from €90 million to €120.40 million between 2019 and 2024, it is because of the number of companies subject to the tax which has changed. That is 3,241 companies out of the 69,000 companies in the Metropolis. What is also changing is the dynamics of the payroll”, the elected official said.
The vice-president says she is ready to discuss it with the Medef as with all the employers' organizations: “The entire strategy of Mobilités aims to serve companies to have a transport policy that benefits their employees. As we did with the implementation of the first bustram line that serves the Millénaire and the Eurêka park, i.e. 11,500 employees”.
Finally, Julie Frêche reminds us for all intents and purposes that “€615 million has been invested since the beginning of the mandate in terms of transport. This supports the economy and has enabled the creation or maintenance of 6,000 jobs”. A word to the wise…
