Benjamin Bonzi from Gard was eliminated this Friday, January 17, in the third round of the Australian Open after a defeat against Jiri Lehecka.

The Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, 64th in the ATP ranking, was eliminated on Friday in the third round of the Australian Open, beaten by Jiri Lehecka (29th) in three sets 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 and 1 hour 47 minutes of play. Winner of his first title on the main circuit at the ATP 250 in Metz in November, the 28-year-old right-hander stops at the same stage as in 2023, his best performance in Melbourne. He could do nothing against the 23-year-old Czech, who was superior in all areas, whether on serve (9 aces to 1) or in rallies (33 winners to 15).

Service failure

Bonzi, who lost his serve five times, was unable to convert the two break points he obtained throughout the match. Lehecka, a quarter-finalist in Melbourne in 2023, his best Grand Slam result, has won his eighth consecutive victory after his victory at the ATP 250 in Brisbane at the beginning of January. He will face Novak Djokovic (7th) in the round of 16.
