Alexandra LEVIT, “FACTS” (Odessa)
On Tuesday, June 23, the Kiev district court of Odessa refused to satisfy the petition of Prosecutor’s office of election of a measure of restraint in the form of a personal commitment to Vadim Black — the owner of the hotel “Tokyo Star”, which on the night of 17 August 2019 as a result of fire killed people.
At the hearing the hotelier said that the results of the examination indicate the presence at the scene of the spots of petroleum products. Black emphasized that “this is irrefutable evidence of arson”.
He also stated that he was aware of the identity of the arsonist.
“It is wholly a Russian terrorist, and now he has fled to Russia. His identity is known to me. The video shows that when the fire started, he went to his room, which was opposite the Laundry room and then she walked out with a backpack full”, — said the hotelier, adding that “this Russian terrorist prosecutors released from Ukraine”.
Thus, the court today freed the Black from the previously elected him a measure of restraint in form of house arrest.
The defendant argues that “the case is completely falsified”.
“The court rejected the Prosecutor in electing me to measure. Prison, then-house arrest, then night house arrest. Now the court refused the Prosecutor’s office even in a polite and insignificant “personal obligation”. It is clear that the decision refers to procedural violations by the Prosecutor. But six months ago, the court had not heard my argument about no less procedural violations”, — says Vadim Black.
The experts noted “the abrupt change of positions of the judicial and prosecutorial branches”. What this will evolve in the future, they predict not taken, but pointing to “unusual and, no doubt, a curious twist in this high profile case”.
We will remind, victims of the fire were 9 people out of about 200 were at the time of the incident in the hotel “Tokyo Star”. Only a few months after the tragedy, in December 2019, in the Sumy region has been buried the last of the identified victims — minors a Long Valentine, who died along with his mother.
