A fire takes away the village hall of Naujaat

Videos showed flames spouting from the village hall in Naujaat, Nunavut, on Saturday.

Videos posted online around 6 a.m. Saturday show flames and smoke billowing from the hall celebrations in Naujaat, a community of about 1,000 people in Nunavut.

Resident Christine Kringayark told CBC/Radio-Canada that the blaze could be seen from all over the hamlet, but the fire seems to have been extinguished in the morning.

This is a big loss. It is the only place to meet during events or that serves as a recreational place , says a user on social networks.

CBC/Radio-Canada has tried to reach the Naujaat Fire Department and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, but have not heard back at this time.

Nauujat is approximately 500 km from Rankin Inlet.
