The police intervened on Sunday evening.
A 32-year-old man from Magog was violently beaten in his home because of a debt of less than $100 contracted a few months earlier.
According to the Régie de police of Memphremagog, the attack occurred Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m. while the 29-year-old victim was sleeping with his two-week-old baby and his partner.
Lieutenant Carl Pépin, of the Memphrémagog Police Board, explains that two of the three suspects first showed up at the victim's house. They knocked on the door of the residence and forced him out, noticing a baby in the residence. A third person then joined them and violently assaulted the man.
They beat him repeatedly. The latter had to undergo treatment in the hospital, he explains. A witness to the attack contacted the police.
The three suspects, well known to the police, are 41, 42 and 37 years old. One of them was already the subject of an arrest warrant.
Two of the suspects have been arrested and according to the Lieutenant Pépin, the third must be met shortly by the police. One was formally charged Tuesday afternoon with assault with a weapon, breaking and entering, extortion and conspiracy. A second is due to appear on Wednesday morning.
In addition, a 32-year-old individual, who allegedly tried to intimidate the victim after the fact, was also arrested.
