A Mexican who traveled illegally to the United States via Estrie lost his life once he arrived in Vermont.

In a statement, Vermont police confirm the death of Jose Leos Cervantes, who is from Aguascalientes, Mexico. The drama happened on February 19. The 45-year-old is believed to have passed through the Stanstead area before being intercepted by authorities near Derby Line, just across the border.

Police were contacted by border agents after they observed three people unauthorized re-entering the United States at Holland, just east of Derby Line.

The victim reportedly collapsed when US agents arrived, while the other two fled to Canada.

The death of the Mexican was found in hospital and is not considered suspicious by US authorities. The investigation continues.

The story is reminiscent of that of the migrant found in critical condition on January 28 in Potton while trying to go illegally to the United States to seek asylum there.

Another migrant froze to death near Roxham Road in early January.
