They came in large numbers on December 4 to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Rêves association. Distinguished guests mingled with families, supporters, volunteers, etc. A joyful, festive and musical atmosphere reigned at Suzanne-Babut Park with the songs of the Happy Kids choir of Baillargues. Josiane Gonnot, national president, Michaël Delafosse, mayor, and Stéphane Jouault, his deputy, wanted to show strong support for the Hérault delegation chaired by Patricia Rigal. She emphasizes: “We were aware of the 50,000 trees operation, led by the City. We wanted to plant the Tree of Dreams to celebrate the association's thirtieth anniversary. There was convergence and the municipality welcomed our project very well. It took care of the entire organization and offered us this beautiful green setting. The association makes the dreams of very seriously ill children come true by offering them an enchanted interlude to forget the illness, stimulate them and give them the strength to fight against the disease.”
From the craziest that seems inaccessible to the most modest, each child's dream is unique. “All dreams are admissible, it is the local medical team that gives the green light with regard to the child's health and who transmits the request to us. The national team (eight employees) does everything possible to see it come to fruition with the financial resources put into the common pot of the thirty-three departmental delegations”. In thirty years, 6,800 dreams have been realized on a national level, 328 are pending. The youngest often dream of a stay in an amusement park. But everything is possible: meeting a sports star, a singer, a TV star, traveling to the ends of the earth, flying in a helicopter, skydiving, etc. The sources of funding are varied: donations, legacies and collections by volunteers. Jean-Claude, the former president, has been campaigning for the association for fifteen years because “Dreams put stars in our eyes”, he says. He collected €3,700 last summer by walking the Way of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. As Brel sang in The Quest, “dream an impossible dream… To reach the inaccessible star”.
The one that now shines in the eyes of sick children and the Rêves volunteers who accompany them.
