A Sherbrookois arrested ;summer for animal cruelty in Sherbrooke

The SPS intervened on rue des Boisés after receiving a call regarding a case of animal cruelty.

A 35-year-old man was arrested by the Sherbrooke Police Department for having tortured a cat in the Ascot district on Thursday morning.

Witnesses saw the man violently beating the animal outside from his home. He then threw the cat into a trash can.

The police intervened around 7:45 a.m., explains the spokesperson for the Service de police de Sherbrooke (SPS), Martin Carrier. The Eastern Townships Humane Society was called to take charge of the cat, but he is unfortunately dead.

The suspect will appear by summons over the next few weeks to being accused of cruelty to animals. He was released pending trial.

The investigation is continuing in the case. The SPS invites any witness to the event with information to contact them at 819-821-5555.
