A swerve leaves three dead and one injured in Mont&érégie

The swerve of a car in which four young people were seated left three dead and one injured, Sunday evening, in Montérégie.

The accident claimed the lives of the 19-year-old driver and two 18-year-old passengers. The driver was trapped in the wreckage of the automobile after the impact, and extrication tools had to be used to get him to the hospital.

The 16-year-old passenger was also taken to hospital. His life would no longer be in danger, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on the road 239 in Saint-Robert, a few kilometers southeast of Sorel-Tracy. The driver of the automobile allegedly lost control in a curve before swerving; the car then rolled a few times before leaving the road.

The hypothesis of excessive speed is considered to explain the tragedy. Crash reconstruction experts have opened an investigation.
