After Heredity and Midsommar, Ari Aster's new nightmare promises to be crazy

Horror cinema's new genius, Ari Aster, will return with Disappointment Blvd., a dark horror comedy starring Joaquin Phoenix.

With only two feature films to his credit, Ari Aster is already one of the most promising names in horror cinema. If the disturbing and evil Heredity had already won over the press and the spectators, the filmmaker had everyone in agreement with Midsommar, a horror film as brilliant as nightmare that quickly became an emblem of “elevated horror”, a subgenre that reconciles horror and visual experimentation.

After these first two very noticed and appreciated films, Ari Aster decided to stay at A24 for his next film named Disappointment Blvd.. In this new work, the filmmaker should offer an intimate portrait of a successful entrepreneur played by none other than Joaquin Phoenix. If the information is still missing and no image has yet been revealed, apart from a stolen photo that we will let you look for, the only info we already have is rather (very) enticing.

If the casting of the film is already promising, since it will find Broadway star Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune) or even Parker Posey. And at their side, we will also find the French actor Denis Ménochet, excellent in Until the Guard and soon to star in the superb As Bestas, the new film by Spanish director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Madre, El Reino).

And precisely, Denis Ménochet said a bit more about Disappointment Blvd. in an interview with CinemaTeaser magazine in issue 113, and what he says is particularly exciting:

“I loved Heredity, so I was very curious to see how it was going to go on set. And it was crazy. Really, there are shots in this movie that will bring everyone down. J can't wait to see it. The tone of the movie looks crazy. It felt like it was constantly mixing genres to get to a place in the cinema that no one had been to before. I think Disappointment Blvd. is going invent his own genre: the Ari Aster movie.”

According to the words of the actor, here in promotion for Peter von Kant the new film by François Ozon (yes, he tours a lot), Disappointment Blvd. could well -be as impressive as expected. While of course the actor wasn't going to say the opposite, what he brings up regarding the mixing of genres is quite enticing. However, for the moment, it is difficult to know when the feature film will be able to be released in theaters.

According to the World of Reel website, the film should be 3h30, an inadmissible duration for A24 who would refuse to distribute the film if Ari Aster does not cut part of it. We therefore hope that Ari Aster will manage to release his film despite its compromising length or that he will find common ground with A24 and that a release date will soon be known since at the latest news, Disappointment Blvd . should arrive before the end of 2022, a deadline which could therefore be postponed.
