On January 1, 2025, pensions will be increased. An average increase of 2.2% was announced, but was disrupted by political chaos and government censorship.

According to information from Ouest France, the Ministry of the Economy announced that basic retirement pensions, excluding supplementary pensions, will increase by 2.2% from January 1, 2025. An annual revaluation that has been disrupted by the political agenda.

Initially, the revaluation had been postponed to July in order to generate savings of 4 billion euros. Finally, in order to avoid censorship by the RN, the government announced a revaluation of 0.8% on January 1, then in July. A censorship that still took place.

Return to the legal indexing rule

With the fall of the Barnier government, the law on financing the Social Security budget was not voted on and therefore the two 0.8% increases will not come into force. It is therefore the legal indexation rule that applies, i.e. 2.2% for an increase of 18 euros on average.

The revaluation could also change if a Social Security budget were voted on by 2025. On the other hand, our colleagues explain that it would be difficult to see a revaluation in a possible text voted on, since the National Assembly overturned Michel Barnier, particularly on the subject of the revaluation of pensions. All the more so since this revaluation could already be paid.
