Starting on January 25, 2025, storm Herminia will hit France on the west coast, particularly hitting the Pyrenees, the Massif Central and the Alps. After Eowyn, currently in the northern part of the country, the trends are reversed.
No lull. After Eowyn, which hits the northern part of the country this weekend – less affected compared to the British Isles – Herminia will arrive tomorrow via the Atlantic coast. Expect: strong winds and rain for 48 hours.
After Eowyn, Herminia
The alert comes from the Spanish meteorological agency, or Aemet, which calls the incoming depression Herminia. “Over the next 24 hours, a low-pressure sinus will explosively deepen in the western Atlantic, giving rise to the formation of storm Herminia which will rapidly cross the ocean,”warns the agency in a press release.
Update on the warnings
This Saturday, Météo France places two departments on orange flood alert: Calvados and Ille-et-Vilaine. In the North, many yellow alerts relate to winds and risks of rain-flooding. The Basque coast is on alert for waves-submersion, still in yellow. For the south-east, it is the risk of storms that takes precedence. The Gard has been placed on yellow alert.

But, “even if its trajectory will not head towards our territory, its proximity will give rise to a generalized storm”,explains the Spanish site. A trait that Spain and the reliefs of the southern half of France risk sharing.
Aemet fears “very strong gusts of wind” but also “heavy rain”.
Windy Sunday
“The associated disturbance will approach our coasts and will sink especially at the end of the day, accompanied by moderate rain and strong gusts of wind on the western coast of the country”, warns for its part Météo France regarding the weather expected for Sunday.
The strong gusts will affect: the Pyrenees, the Massif Central and the Alps. And to a lesser extent, the Mediterranean coasts. The wind will reach 100, even 120 km/h. Rain is expected on the Atlantic coast, as far as Brittany.
The situation is to be monitored: “On Sunday, the southerly wind will blow hard on the Pyrenean ridges, reaching stormy values that could spread towards the valleys and the Basque coast, particularly during the night from Sunday to Monday. A worsening of the vigilance level for the 'wind' parameter is not excluded.”
