At kick-off, nine points separated promoted Montpellier (4th) and French vice-champion Nantes (8th). The pressure was on the visitors' shoulders. The MMF took control of the match, creating the biggest chances (3rd, 4th, 11th) without managing to convert.

Opposite, Nantes hit the post (12th) before letting their guard down. On a textbook move, the locals opened the scoring. Moroccan new international Yanis Erradaf was at the end of a three-way game (1-0, 13th). The crowd at the Palais des sports Coubertin, which included many children in its ranks, finally got excited. Amine Gueddoura had the opportunity to double the lead but he lost his one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper.

A few seconds later, Nantes came back level through Gora Diop (1-1, 17th). After the break, Hérault were caught cold by the opponent's realism. Francisco Valdelvira gave his team the advantage (1-2, 23rd). The bad news continued with the Brazilian Edimar's ankle injury.

A penalty to snatch the equalizer

Under the impetus of Erradaf who narrowly missed the equalizer twice, one of which was a long-range lob (30th), the MMF tried everything. Khalid Kouri and Jhonatan Ruas came up against the Nantes goalkeeper (32nd, 33rd). In his goal, Stefano kept hope of a comeback alive in the final moments thanks to a superb save three minutes from the end. With 38 seconds left, the referee whistled a penalty for the MMF.

Jhonatan Ruas converted it and blew up the Montpellier stadium (2-2). At the time of the separation, there was still a nine-point gap between the two teams and Montpellier consolidated its fourth position in the standings.
