Nearly forty people gathered on Wednesday shortly before 11 a.m. near the offices where the Minister of the Environment must meet elected officials and representatives of citizens' committees.

Quebec Environment Minister Benoit Charette is meeting today with elected officials and representatives of various organizations regarding air quality and arsenic emissions from the Horne Foundry in Rouyn-Noranda.

The Minister must meet with the mayor of Rouyn-Noranda, Diane Dallaire and municipal councillors.

Meetings with the Regional Public Health Department, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rouyn-Noranda, the ARET Committee, a local representative of the Association québécoise des doctors for the environment and a spokesperson for the Regional Environment Committee are on schedule.

A virtual meeting is also scheduled at 2:30 p.m. with the supportive MP for Rouyn-Noranda–Témiscamingue, Émilise Lessard-Therrien.

The citizen movement Mothers at the front organized a demonstration at 10:30 a.m. in front of the offices of the Ministry of the Environment.

Some people gathered near the building where Benoit Charette is. The participants demand that the Minister impose on Glencore, owner of the Horne Smelter, the provincial standard of 3 nanograms per cubic meter for the release of arsenic particles into the air.

A hundred citizens had also gathered on Monday to remind their demands to the elected members of the municipal council.

More details to come.
