In a letter open Thursday, the MP for Richmond-Arthabaska asks Conservative supporters not to vote for Pierre Poilievre, who is running for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Even before the campaign was launched, Alain Rayes was campaigning for Jean Charest to return to politics to succeed Erin O'Toole. He is also in charge of the Quebec campaign of the former Liberal Prime Minister.

Without ever naming Pierre Poilièvre in his missive, the member for Centre-du-Québec pleads for Jean Charest to be elected. As members of the party well aware of the situation, you know very well that this is the only way for the Conservative Party of Canada to finally regain power and form a majority government, he writes.

Alain Rayes finds that Pierre Poilievre stirs up hatred and division within our population, members of our party, he explained in an interview on the show Always in the morning.

Party members are voting for the candidate of their choice and that is why the MP decided to make such a public outing . Voting closes September 6; the name of the new leader will be announced four days later.

Five candidates are in the running to succeed Erin O'Toole, namely Pierre Poilievre, Jean Charest, Leslyn Lewis, Scott Aitchison and Roman Baber.

Do we want to foster American-style populism and ensure power for Justin Trudeau and his New Democrat-Liberal coalition? Or do we prefer to offer a real chance to our party to form a majority government […]?, launches Alain Rayes in his open letter.
