The events took place on Saturday in the Chemin de la Branche-Ouest sector, in the Lac Élaine resort area, several kilometers from the heart of La Doré.
Sylvain St-Pierre , this man who caused a stir with a weapon on Saturday in the municipality of La Doré, appeared, for the second time in as many days, Monday morning at the Roberval courthouse. The suspect remains in custody until his next court appearance on March 6.
The 53-year-old faces charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm with intent to injure a first victim who was riding a snowmobile. He is also accused of pointing a firearm at two other men, also snowmobilers, and of carrying weapons for a dangerous purpose.
The victims did not know the accused, who has an address in Longueuil. However, according to the mayor of La Doré, Ghislain Laprise, he had been living on the territory of La Doré for several years.
The accused appeared by videoconference from Roberval prison. The Criminal and Penal Prosecutions Department (DPCP) opposed his release. The investigation into the release of Sylvain St-Pierre has been postponed until next Monday.
The three victims of the alleged shooter know each other.
According to the Sûreté du Québec and the DPCP, the 43-year-old victim is still in critical but stable condition. The charges could change depending on the evolution of his state of health and the progress of the investigation.
Crown prosecutor Marie-Philippe Charron explains that from further charges could be added as the investigation is still ongoing.
The investigation is still ongoing. The information we have is really minimal, so the civilian witnesses who were on the scene, the police officers who intervened at that time. But apart from that, there are still a lot of things to check at the police level, mentioned the lawyer.
Recall that a police operation was launched on Saturday, in the municipality of 1500 inhabitants in order to locate the armed individual. Sylvain St-Pierre shot and injured a snowmobiler. The victim was traveling in the Chemin de la Branche-Ouest area with friends. The nature of the weapon used has not yet been revealed.
