Major us online retailer Amazon, previously sold Christmas ornaments with a picture of the Auschwitz concentration camp, caught in a new scandal: the company was fined for the provision of services and sale of goods that fall under the sanctions of the us government.
This is stated in the message of Office of foreign assets control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department.
It is specified that a penalty of more than $ 134 thousand accrued due to violations of U.S. sanctions for the provision of services in the Crimea, Syria and Iran, including persons residing or working in the foreign missions of States subject to sanctions.
“The Company Amazon.com, Inc. (“Amazon”), registered in Seattle, Washington that provides retail, sales and digital services to millions of customers around the world, agreed to pay $ 134 523 to settle potential civil liability for apparent violations of multiple sanctions programs of OFAC”, — stated in the message.
Violations recorded in the period from 2011 to 2018, and are associated with errors of automatic control systems Amazon.
It is also noted that although the company has not promptly reported it to the authorities, she subsequently voluntarily informed them and worked on fixing bugs in their system.
Therefore, the amount of the fine issued by the U.S. Treasury, is relatively small.
Earlier, the “FACTS” wrote that Ukrainian sellers skillfully used the possibility of selling goods on Amazon last year of us being traded sunflower oil from Ukraine, as though at a fabulous price for Ukraine — $ 14 (about 350 UAH) per liter, and the lack of buyers was not observed.
