A suicide bomber could have been involved in the explosion in the Turkish city. There is also information about the detonation of a bag of explosives, according to the media.
An explosion occurred in the Turkish city of Istanbul, as a result of which there are dead and wounded. The incident happened on a pedestrian street, next to the Russian consulate. The incident was reported on Twitter by the Governor of Istanbul, Ali Arlikaya.
According to a Turkish official, the explosion occurred around 16:20 local time (15:20 Kyiv time) on Istiklal Street.
“Our police, doctors, firefighters were sent to the scene … There are victims and wounded. Information about the incident will be brought to the attention of the public,” Arlikaya wrote.
According to preliminary data, which were at the disposal of CNN Turk, 11 people were injured. The journalists also reported that at the moment it is known about at least one dead.
“According to the information we received, we are talking about a terrorist attack, it is highly likely that it could even be a suicide bomber, they also talk about a bag filled with explosives,” the media reported.
Note that the pedestrian Istiklal Street, where the explosion occurred, is located about 500 meters from the Russian Consulate in Istanbul.
In the period from 2015 to 2017, Turkey suffered from a series of deadly explosions committed by the Islamic State group and Kurdish groups outlawed in the state.
