In its annual report published on January 22, 2025, the CRIF deplores a historic number of anti-Semitic acts in France last year. Among them, particularly shocking criminal acts.

“We are facing a historic number of anti-Semitic acts,” poses the CRIF (Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France) in its preamble. In 2024, and for the second consecutive year, the figures are alarming.

A much too slight decline

In 2024, 1,570 anti-Semitic acts were recorded, compared to 1,676 the previous year. And while this slight decrease is a good sign, it should be remembered that in 2022, the figure was 436. This year, more than three times as many acts occurred compared to two years ago.

The council also points out that attacks on people represent the majority of acts, at 65.2%. And among them, 10% are physical violence.

Extreme violence

A finding that is all the more alarming since it seems to be partly the result of the global geopolitical climate. The CRIF notes in particular that certain news items linked to the Israel-Hamas conflict, the attacks of October 7 and Israel's intervention in Palestine played a major role.

Positioned against the description of “genocide” on what is happening in Gaza, the council considers that this is a “false accusation” which has “contributed to demonizing the image of Jews in France and to justifying hostile or insulting behavior towards them”.

“Some acts have been extremely violent, such as the attack on the synagogue in La Grande-Motte, the burning of the synagogue in Rouen or the anti-Semitic rape of a 12-year-old girl in Courbevoie”, deplores the CRIF. Shocking events.

This is the case of the attack at the synagogue in La Grande-Motte. The suspect had confessed to having committed this act “for Palestine”. This Nîmes native cultivated “a hatred of Jews”. He is in pre-trial detention awaiting trial. A form of terrorism fueled by amalgams between the Israeli government and the Jewish religion.
