The decree of September 12 orders parishes to tithe the curia of the income they receive from their activities. The money obtained from this is to be used to help those parishes most affected by inflation and the resulting rise in prices.

The new tax applies to those parishes that have additional revenues, for example from the lease of land, real estate, shops, and the possibility of placing telecommunications masts in the parish.

The new tax evokes a lot of emotions

The issue of the new tax raises a lot of emotions. In an interview with the portal “Onet”, Fr. Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski stated that Archbishop Jędraszewski behaved like a king who does not need to consult his subjects on one issue or another.

Others appreciate the idea and say that they found themselves in a rather difficult position, because their bills jumped sharply. In one of the parishes in the western part of the Lesser Poland voivodeship, the fee for utilities increased by almost 300 percent.

The decree also announced that the introduction of this levy does not exclude that “imposing on some legal persons subordinate to the Archbishop other additional burdens”.
