38-year-old Matteo Costacurta played polo with Prince Harry and killed criminals “for fun”
Italian aristocrat Matteo Costacurta, 38, has been charged with being a mafia hitman. He is accused of almost shooting a member of a mafia group for 30,000 euros. La Repubblica writes about this.
Matteo, nicknamed “The Prince”, was one of five arrested suspects in criminal activities.
His arrest seems to have unraveled the web of criminal agreements in Rome, linking figures of the underworld who called each other church nicknames, so one of them was called “Pope” and the other “Saint Peter”.
The wealthy aristocrat is said to be linked to the Nuclei Armati Rivoluzionari (NAR), a right-wing terrorist group that killed 85 people when it bombed Bologna's central train station in 1980.
The aristocrat is accused of attempted murder of Alessio Marzani — famous Roman mafia. He blackmailed his brothers and they decided to get rid of him.
Matteo took the help of the Albanian criminal Elvis Demse and together they tracked down Martsani. They shot him in the city of Acilia, driving up on a motorcycle.
But Martsani managed to hide in a residential building, the inhabitants of which called the police. He eventually survived.
Another one of the organizers of the murder is Alessandro Corvesi, a retired professional football player.
Costacurta's lawyer claims that he is a decent person and not connected with the underworld.
“Costacurta was recently in Africa with the nuns who work on the projects of the Community of Sant'Egidio. Does this look like a profile of a killer?” – he said. But in Africa they said they had never heard of Costacurta.
Remarkably, Costacurta is known in Italy as a polo player. He is a member of the same Roma Polo Club as Prince Harry. They probably even met on the field.
Costacurta comes from an ancient Venetian family. He owns real estate in Rome near the Vatican, an apartment in Rome and a villa in Sardinia, where he hosted luxurious parties with his wife.
