Arson in Shawinigan: a prison sentence for the accused

A 42-year-old man from Shawinigan admitted to intentionally setting fire to the interior of the Walmart store in October 2021. Marc-Philippe Arnold has was sentenced to 57 months in prison, but with the time he has already served behind bars, he has 33 months left to serve.
The sentence was rendered Tuesday by Judge Jacques Trudel.
The fire had forced the complete evacuation of the store and its closure for almost a month.
Workers from outside the region had to come and lend a hand to Shawinigan employees to empty, clean and restore the business.
No one& #x27;ava he was injured.
The blaze originated in the hunting and fishing section. Various combustible materials were therefore found there with the camping items, which could have caused an explosion.
Marc-Philippe Arnold was also facing charges of theft.< /p>
