Algeria said on Tuesday, January 28, that it had summoned the French ambassador to Algiers to denounce “degrading treatment”to which Algerian passengers arriving at Parisian airports were allegedly subjected, according to an official statement.
Algeria, in a diplomatic crisis with France, summoned the French ambassador to Algiers on Tuesday, January 28, and expressed its “deep concern (in the face of) consistent testimonies from a number of Algerian nationals about provocative, degrading and discriminatory treatment to which they are subjected by the Border Police at Roissy-Charles-De-Gaulle and Orly airports”, according to an official statement.
“Following confirmation of the veracity of this information”,the Secretary of State in charge of the national community abroad, Sofiane Chaib, summoned the French ambassador, Stéphane Romatet, “to inform him of the Algerian government's firm protest against such totally unacceptable actions”, the same source added.

The Algerian official “asked the ambassador to inform his government of the need to take all necessary measures to put an end, without delay, to these unacceptable actions and practices that dishonor the government French”.
“He also affirmed Algeria's categorical rejection of any attack, in any way whatsoever, on the dignity of its citizens, or of using them for the purposes of pressure, provocation or attempted intimidation against their country,” still according to the press release.
Relations that are deteriorating between the two countries
Relations between the two countries have deteriorated after Paris announced at the end of July that it would support the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara, a territory with an undefined status at the UN and the scene of a conflict for half a century between Morocco and the Sahrawi separatists of the Polisario Front, supported by Algiers.
The quarrel has amplified by the detention in Algeria since mid-November of the Franco-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal and then the arrest in France at the beginning of the year of several Algerian and Franco-Algerian influencers for advocating violence.
“Yesterday, Algerian travelers, with valid visas, suffered an ordeal upon their arrival at French airports, particularly in Paris. Behind this punitive approach is Bruno Retailleau”, the French Minister of the Interior, the government daily El Moudjahid stated on Tuesday.
“A hateful figure”, Mr. Retailleau “is orchestrating a policy of humiliation directly targeting Algerians”, the newspaper continued.
