Asghar Farhadi's 'Hero' hits select theaters

    On July 21, the film Hero was released in limited theatrical distribution. At last year's Cannes Film Festival, the film was awarded two prizes (including the Grand Prix) and a five-minute standing ovation. The film was also shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Film. The official Ukrainian trailer has been released.

    Protagonist Rakhim is released from prison for two days. He is trying to deal with the debt, because of which he went to jail. His fiancée finds a bag of money, but it is not enough to cover the debt. Then the hero decides to find the owner of the money.

    “Hero” — a new film by Asghar Farhadi, the famous Iranian director, creator of the Oscar-winning films “The Traveler” and “The Divorce of Nader and Simin”, as well as “Everyone Knows” with Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. As for most of his films, Asghar Farhad wrote the script himself.

    The world premiere of the film took place as part of the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival 2021, where it made a splash: the audience's applause lasted five minutes, the press received the film warmly, the picture was awarded the Grand Prix of the festival and the Francois Chalet Prize — Values ​​of Journalism Award.

    Hero received mostly positive reviews from film critics and audiences alike, with a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (favorable reviews from New Yorker, Time, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal), on Metacritic — 82 points out of the Must See mark, and on IMDb – 7.5.

    Hero has a limited release on July 21 — The film can only be viewed in selected theaters. The picture is shown in the original language with Ukrainian subtitles.
