Wes Anderson's new work, Asteroid City with Bill Murray and Tom Hanks has just unveiled a synopsis that promises to be dreamy.
With only ten feature films to his credit, Wes Anderson has become one of Hollywood's most bankable names, the mere mention of which makes many moviegoers' hairs stand on end. The boss of American independent cinema, whose works have passed through the major festivals of the world, has never received the ultimate reward: the Oscar. A consecration that he may achieve with his next film.
Currently preparing The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a film adapted from several short stories written by Roald Dahl, the filmmaker is also working on Asteroid City, whose story comes straight from his imagination. If for the moment no official image has been unveiled, stolen photos have confirmed that the shooting has started well. After the casting, it's the turn of the official synopsis to reveal itself:
“Asteroid City is a poetic meditation on the meaning of life. It tells the story of a deserted and fictional American city in the years 1955 and the Junior Stargazer convention, which brings together students and parents from all over the country for a scholarly competition, which will also be an opportunity for them to have fun and enjoy themselves. Comedy, drama, romance and more will be on the agenda.”
If the filming took place in Spain, this synopsis tells us that the action will take place in the United States, but in a fictional city. Wes Anderson stays in his favorite era by choosing the 50s, which he already talked about in The French Dispatch, his latest film. The filmmaker promises us dreams with this work which will certainly place astronomy at the center of his story.
As usual, Wes Anderson calls on his troupe since Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber and Rupert Friend will be there, as will Jeffrey Wright, who joined the band with The French Dispatch, but also Scarlett Johansson and Bryan Cranston who both lent their voices to characters from L isle of dogs.
Newcomers have also been hired, such as Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Margot Robbie, Matt Dillon and Maya Hawke, the new star of Stranger Things . For the moment, no release date has been announced, but it is hoped that Asteroid City will arrive sometime in 2023.
