Sales of Audi cars in the European market have fallen by 15% in recent years. According to the company's management, Audi needs a reorganization and a transition to the production of electric cars.
Audi brand may cease to exist in 10 years. Hildegard Wortmann, a member of the board of directors of the company, stated this, reports Merkur.de.
Hildegard Wortmann first expressed concern about the future of Audi last year, and recently confirmed her words and stressed that the next few years will be decisive for the premium division of the Volkswagen Group. To avoid closure, the company must reorganize as quickly as possible.
In recent years, due to the shortage of automotive chips, the coronavirus pandemic and inflation, Audi sales in Europe have fallen by 15%. The situation on the market was aggravated by Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. If the trend continues, the brand may disappear.
Hildegard Wortmann puts Audi's chances of staying afloat at 50/50. Ideally, electrification should be completed by 2033.
Audi's transformation is already underway, with the German brand ditching several well-known models. Also, a number of popular Audis (A3, A4, A6, A8) will receive electric versions or will be fully converted to electric traction.
