The Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, 64th in the ATP rankings, qualified for the second round of the Australian Open on Monday by snatching his first victory in four confrontations against the Belgian David Goffin (54th).

Winner of his first title on the main circuit at the ATP 250 in Metz in November, the 28-year-old right-hander won 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (9/7).

An Italian in the 2nd round

In the 2nd round, he will face the Italian Francesco Passaro (104th), beaten in the 3rd round of qualifying but brought back into the main draw thanks to the withdrawal of his compatriot Fabio Fognini (88th).
