The candidates for the 2022 French baccalaureate came across a text by Sylvie Germain, taken from her book Days of anger (Gallimard). They went wild over the excerpt that they deemed too complicated to analyze and insulted the author. The latter was interviewed by a journalist from Le Figaro and she speaks openly. However, the next day, a great controversy was published and disgruntled high school students poured out their anger on the networkssocial groups calling her names. Sylvie Germain explains that she does not feel personally concerned but that she is rather worried. For her, it is terrible to see that students who reach the end of their schooling show so much immaturity and hatred of the language. She thinks that the students lack reflection, imagination but also curiosity.

Faced with the criticism received, Sylvain Germain underlines that she “does not even feel anger, only desolation”. According to the author, the problem that arises is that high school students want to obtain a diploma without even making a small effort. She thinks they tend to victimize each other for a yes or a no. During his interview, the journalist ended up asking the writer for any advice she could have given the students to analyze her text. His response was as follows: “I have no advice to give for studying this text, I am not writing to offer analyses, just stories likely to make you dream, imagine, think. »
