The House of Representatives and the Senate of Romania supported the creation of an Alliance battle group in the country under the leadership of France. This was reported by the Agerpres agency.
As specified, 309 people voted for such a decision, five votes were against.
President Klaus Iohannis made a corresponding proposal to the Romanian Parliament.
The head of state, in particular, believes that the creation of a NATO battle group in Romania will increase the defense potential of the Alliance, strengthen the strategic partnership with France, and also improve relations with Belgium and the Netherlands.
In his address Iohannis also reminded the deputies that after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at an extraordinary NATO summit in Brussels, it was decided to create such battle groups in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.
Mediafax, in turn, writes that units from North Macedonia will enter the country.
