World of WarCraft: Shadowlands has had the best PC game sales (industry-wide) ever, according to Activision Blizzard. The eighth expansion has sold over 3.7 million times in 24 hours. The previous industry record holder was Diablo 3, which had sold over 3.5 million copies on the first day of its release.
“Today’s announcement confirms that Shadowlands has surpassed this milestone and all other reported sales successes for all PC games in history over the same period,” the announcement said. Sales and / or download data are based on internal company records and reports from major distributors.
In the months leading up to Shadowlands’ release and in the period since its launch, World of WarCraft had the highest number of players with monthly or long-term subscriptions compared to the same period before and after any WoW expansion in the past decade – both in western countries as well as in the eastern regions. Shadowlands players have spent more time in Azeroth to date than they have over the past decade. In addition, the total playing time of players this year has almost doubled compared to the same period last year. Activision Blizzard did not name the number of players.
Our test is in progress and scheduled for next week – after the start of the first season (Mythical Keystones, PvP and Raid)
