The Frenchwoman shines in the individual race in Ruhpolding this Thursday, January 16, and signs her fourth victory of the winter.

Thanks to a clear round behind the rifle (20/20), Lou Jeanmonnot beat the German Franziska Preuss, leader of the general World Cup ranking, who made a mistake on the shooting range. The overall gap between the two biathletes is now 101 points (674 against 573) at mid-season (11 races out of 21).

“Like all individual events, it is often won by 20 in shooting. Today I was keen to shoot well, with a red jersey (leader of the World Cup in the discipline, Editor's note), which I had never managed to understand and manage until then. It is my pride of the day”, commented the Frenchwoman on the microphone of the L'Equipe channel.

It was during the individual event in Ruhpolding in January 2023 that she achieved her first World Cup podium two years ago. “I remembered that I loved the track here”, she added.

The 26-year-old from Doubs won the short individual (12.5 km) in Kontiolahti (Finland) for the season opener, and also won the pursuits (10 km) in Hochfilzen (Austria) and Oberhof (Germany).

Having missed out on the Grand-Bornand stage, on home soil, she took advantage of her stopover in Oberhof to get back into the race for the big crystal globe, while Preuss suffered two poor performances there last week.

Expected victory

Of the first eleven individual races of the winter, the French biathletes have won six, four for Jeanmonnot, one for Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (Grand-Bornand sprint) and one for Paula Botet (Oberhof sprint). In Ruhpolding in southern Bavaria, the French women will try on Saturday (2:30 p.m.) to secure a first relay victory (4.6 km) this season after two second places in Kontiolahti and Antholz, before a mass start (12.5 km) on Sunday.
