BMW plans to introduce the so-called direct sales of cars and will gradually abandon dealers. This was stated by the financial director of the German concern Nicholas Peter in an interview with the Muenchner Merkur newspaper.

According to him, at first in 2024, direct online car sales will be introduced for the Mini brand. It will be possible to buy a BMW without visiting a car dealership from 2026. The number of dealerships will be gradually reduced.

“We want to give customers the opportunity to order cars directly from us,” said Nicholas Peter.

BMW and Mini buyers will be able to choose a car on the site, where there will be an online warehouse of available machines. After that, the car will be delivered to the client or he will need to come to the warehouse himself.

Direct car sales have become popular lately. Tesla was the first to introduce them, which does not have traditional dealers – all cars are ordered through the company's website.

This scheme has its advantages. Firstly, there are no dealer margins and cars are sold at prices set by the automaker. Secondly, it is easier for buyers to choose a car in the right configuration.
