UK for the first time independently impose sanctions against dozens of people accused of human rights violations worldwide.
This is the BBC.
Foreign Minister Dominic Raab will launch a new governmental regime of sanctions after Brexit, calling first offenders whose assets have been frozen.
In the past the UK was almost always imposed sanctions collectively as a member of the UN or the EU. But after Brexit country can act independently.
Raab will present the final legislation needed to run the new Autonomous sanctions regime in Britain.
“From today the UK will receive new powers to deny entry to persons involved in serious crimes and human rights violations to send money via our banks and to profit from our economy,” said Raab.
The sanctions regime will be designed for individuals or organizations accused of human rights violations worldwide, as well as for those who receive financial benefits from these violations.
The foreign Minister will call a few dozen people whose assets in Britain will be frozen and who will also be denied entry into the country.
It is expected that the first list will include people from Russia, Saudi Arabia and North Korea, but not yet from China.
The representative of the Department of foreign Affairs said that the new regime will allow Britain “to work independently from allies such as the USA, Canada, Australia and the European Union”.
