The British Columbia will soon have a Ministry of Housing

The lack of affordable housing is one of the main concerns of voters in British Columbia.

This is a first in British Columbia. The government announced the creation of a stand-alone department to tackle the housing crisis, a day after Victoria introduced new laws to provide more housing for the people.

La housing crisis deserves the attention of a full ministry and the resources to go with it, says Premier David Eby.

The objective is to have a ministry that will take charge of the housing crisis in the province, while currently the Minister responsible for Housing, Murray Rankin, also manages the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.

Having done this in addition to two other missions, I'm thrilled with today's announcement, says Murray Rankin. I think it is remarkable that the new Prime Minister has recognized, as we all do, that there is a housing crisis by prioritizing it and creating a new stand-alone ministry.

Whoever will be Minister of Housing will be named when Prime Minister Eby announces his Cabinet on December 7, 2022.

On Monday, the province announced two bills. The first aims to collaborate with municipalities to build more housing, and the second wants to modify the law on condominiums, which for example prevents people with children from renting real estate.
