Perhaps at the end of this season, Montpellier will not win any more titles, but if its players show the face they saw on Tuesday night against Tours, they will not be far from filling the trophy cabinet. One thing is certain: for the second year in a row, MHSC VB will be at the semi-finals of the Coupe de France, a competition it has never won despite reaching the final last season.

Yesterday, Montpellier achieved the feat of outclassing Tours, the most successful club in France, which travelled to Hérault on the strength of a series of 16 victories in its last 19 matches. Beating Marcelo Franckowiak's men in three sets by mastering his subject to perfection is a huge achievement.

Le Goff at high altitude

Nicolas Le Goff and his partners began by dominating the first set head and shoulders against the pale Tours team (25-28). The second set was the most contested since Montpellier, struggling on serve, needed three balls to conclude (27-25).

The third and final act was the most accomplished, the final note of the Hérault recital. Counters from Bulgarian Dimitar Dimitrov and French international Joris Seddik launched the team towards victory.

Ezequiel Palacios' ace, voted best player of the match, put a blow behind TVB's head (19-16). Finally, the colossus Nicolas Le Goff finished the job with two high-altitude counters before a final attack from Raphaël Corre sent MHSC VB into the last four of the national competition.

Semi-final draw: February 12
Semi-finals: March 4
