The government is planning a gradual increase in fuel taxes to the level set by EU directives. Excises are preparing to increase this year.
The Ministry of Finance proposes to increase excises on fuel for cars. The corresponding bill has already been developed. This is reported by the Judicial-Legal Newspaper.
The Ministry of Finance is going to bring taxes on fuel in accordance with EU directives. In particular, the excise tax on gas for cars will more than double in stages – from 52 to 125 euros per 1,000 liters. This is the minimum possible amount provided for by the EU directive.
The excise tax on gasoline is planned to be initially increased to 213 euros per 1000 liters. By 2028, it is planned to gradually increase excise rates on gasoline and diesel to more than 300 euros, the minimum level set by EU directives.
As you know, the current reduced excise taxes on fuel in Ukraine were set in September and are valid until the end of martial law or until July 1, 2023 (whichever comes first). They amount to 52 euros for 1000 liters of liquefied gas and 100 euros for 1000 liters of gasoline, diesel or biofuel.
In October, while preparing the state budget, Danil Getmantsev, Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, announced the return of increased excises on fuel in 2023.
