The investigators believe that the poisonings could have occurred accidentally, when the children would have ingested products containing THC without knowing it.

The Quebec police are investigating cases of children poisoned with cannabis that have occurred in recent months. Small victims under the age of 5 are out of danger.

The Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) refuses to confirm the number of cases under investigation, but recalls that one case is one case too many, explains Marie-Pier Rivard , spokesperson.

Investigations could lead to criminal negligence charges if criminal elements are discovered.

Investigators believe that the poisonings could have occurred accidentally, when the children had ingested products containing THC without knowing it. They remind us of the importance of keeping these substances out of the reach of children.

The SPVQ and the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale are calling for vigilance regarding the consumption of certain illicit products whose THC content is unknown.

Remember that products appealing to people under the age of 21, such as cannabis sweets and solid foods such as chocolates, confectionery or desserts are prohibited from sale in Quebec.

The Quebec Poison Control Center has identified 15 cases of suspected cannabis poisoning among 14-year-olds and under in 2022 in the Capitale-Nationale region.

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Difficulty speaking or walking
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Convulsions
  • Coma in very rare cases
