China will respond quickly and decisively to Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, Media

According to journalists, this visit will not go unanswered. Before the landing of the plane with Nancy Pelosi on board, the Chinese media reported that Su-35 fighters of the Chinese Air Force were taken into the air. And the Ministry of Defense of the country announced the planned military exercises 80 km from the coast of Taiwan.

On Tuesday, August 2, Speaker of the lower house of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan. The first visit to the island nation in 25 years by an American official of such a high rank adds tension to the confrontation between China and Taiwan, which could potentially push the PRC to take decisive action and start a military conflict. It is reported by the NYT.

Apparently, the appearance of Pelosi in Taiwan will not go unanswered by China, which response this may be quite harsh, journalists believe, because the Chinese leadership is outraged by any objections regarding its claims to Taiwan.

Representatives of the Celestial Empire have repeatedly warned that it would be better for American politicians to refrain from visiting the island. Official Washington, in turn, dissuaded Beijing from a potential military invasion.

Shortly after her arrival, Pelosi made a statement that her visit was a sign of the United States' unwavering stance and support for Taiwan's vibrant democracy.

“America's solidarity with Taiwan's 23 million people is more important than ever today because the world is now faced with a choice between autocracy and democracy,” Pelosi said, noting that the visit of a congressional representative does not run counter to US policy towards Taiwan.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping is calling for Taiwan to unify, perhaps even ready for a military scenario, due to the need for a national revival. Recently, the PRC made claims over the Taiwan Strait, which separates Taiwan and China and is considered one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.

US representatives have repeatedly declared their support for Taiwan and demonstrated solidarity with the island nation.

Last week, Biden spoke for more than two and a half hours on the phone with Xi, who warned that the United States was “playing with fire” if Nancy Pelosi was planning a visit.

China's defense ministry awaiting an American guest in Taiwan announced plans to conduct military exercises using live ammunition off its coast near the Taiwan Strait, 80 km from the coast of Taiwan.

When the plane carrying Pelosi was approaching Taiwan, several Chinese news agencies wrote that the Su-35 fighters of the Chinese Air Force approached the strait. At the same time, it was not specified how far they flew away and for what purpose this was done.
