Elected officials from the Borgne Valley have given their support to the parents' group. MIDI LIBRE – DR
For several weeks, a group has been active in Saint-Jean-du-Gard, a village in the Gard.
The parents' group at the Saint-Jean-du-Gard school in the Gard Cévennes is not giving up. As a reminder, two classes are threatened with closure for the start of the school year in September: one in nursery school and another in elementary school. Before the Christmas school holidays, the school had been occupied “to make the situation visible, inform, bring us together”. And a petition was launched, which, by December 26, had collected nearly “1,300 signatures”.

As the resumption of classes approaches, the collective seems to be sharpening its weapons. Indeed, the mobilized parents of students indicate that “the occupation will be maintained”. Let us recall that a delegation of six parents is to be received on January 10 by the services of the academic director of the National Education Services (Dasen), which hopes that the Dasen “hears and takes note of (their) arguments in favor of maintaining all classes, takes full measure of the context of (their) schools, and makes decisions that are not based solely on accounting and budgetary criteria, but on qualitative criteria, both for the working conditions of teachers and Atsems and for the well-being and daily learning of (their) children”.
The specter of a long blockade
The members of the collective reiterate how much they are “determined” and already “organized to block the school without a satisfactory response during (their) meeting with the Dasen”.
