The closure of Sokhnut will have a bad effect on relations between Israel and the Russian Federation, — Prime Minister

According to Yair Lapid, Israel will send a delegation to Moscow to negotiate the issue of the Jewish Repatriation Agency, if the Russian Federation agrees to negotiate.

A regular meeting was held in Israel in connection with the demand of the Russian Ministry of Justice to close the Sokhnut agency in the territory of the Russian Federation. The meeting was attended by Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, representatives of the agency and a number of other government officials. According to the Israeli prime minister, the closure of the Sokhnut representative office in the Russian Federation will have a bad effect on bilateral relations between Israel and the Russian Federation. Newsru.co.il reports this.

Israel will send a delegation to Moscow for talks on this issue as soon as the Russian Federation agrees to hold them.

There is already an order from the head of the Israeli Parliament on the readiness of the legal delegation to immediately leave for Moscow and to use the possibilities of a legal dialogue.

The closure of Sokhnut in Russia

Israel will continue to conduct a political dialogue with the Russian Federation at a high level level after representatives of the Russian Ministry of Justice filed a lawsuit on July 21 with a demand to stop the activities of the Jewish Agency on Russian territory. The leaders of the Russian department asked the court to liquidate the Jewish Agency “Sokhnut” in the Russian Federation for repatriation to Israel. Consideration of the issue by the Basmanny Court is scheduled for July 28 this year.

The press service of the court said that the claims are related to violations of Russian law in the conduct of the agency's activities. Allegedly, “Sokhnut” collects data on Jews who live in the Russian Federation, and persons who have the right to repatriate.
