A nine-year-old child died following an accident which occurred Friday morning in Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, in Lanaudière.
Another child, who was in the same vehicle, was seriously injured and transported in hospital, where he was in stable condition Friday afternoon. The driver of the vehicle was also taken to hospital as a precaution.
The collision with a heavy truck occurred around 10:15 a.m. at the ;intersection of Ruisseau-Saint-Jean Nord and Louis-Philippe-Lesage roads.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the driver of the truck, a 42-year-old man years old who was traveling on chemin Louis-Philippe-Lesage, would have omitted to make his mandatory stop. This would have caused the side impact with the vehicle carrying a man and two children, explained Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Nicolas Scholtus.
The driver of the truck was not injured.
A Hydro-Quebec pole was severed during this collision, according to the SQ. However, no breakdowns have been reported in the area, according to the Info-pannes website.
