The official Corona warning app is fundamentally convincing with its very good concept and high data protection standard thanks to its decentralized approach. The RKI has so far counted over 23.5 million downloads (as of December 4th) with a population of 83 million – a good figure.
Unfortunately, the proportion of reported infections is much lower. So far, only around 100,000 positive test results have been registered in the app. With a total of more than 1.1 million reported positive corona cases in Germany, not even 10 percent of all cases are recorded via the Corona warning app.
For an efficient early warning system, however, greater participation in the population is required. Statistics on the Corona warning app show that the percentage of new infections every day who upload their positive test results via the Corona warning app in order to allow a risk calculation and thus warn contacts has increased over the past few weeks.
Due to the decentralized functionality of the Corona warning app, these values are not exact, but the following applies: the more people use the Corona warning app, the more the app brings for everyone. Contact persons do not find out who their risk encounter was. Chancellery boss Helge Braun calculates that with 15 relevant contacts per user, roughly 1.5 million people have already received a warning.
