Cuba will be able to have its Major Leagues in the World Baseball Classic
The Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) has been informed that the Government of the United States granted a license. Permission was granted for athletes of Cuban origin, residing in that country, to join their team in the V World Baseball Classic, scheduled from March 8 to 21, 2023.
«We have received a communication from the organizers of the Clásico announcing that a license was granted. The license requested by them so that the Cuba team can register Cuban athletes on its roster, whether they are from MLB or not, who have residence in the United States,” said the Cuban athlete. Juan Reinaldo Pérez Pardo, president of the FCB.
“The communication specifies that the details of the license granted will be reported shortly. Once this happens we will be in a position to announce the pre-nomination of the Cuba team,” added the Cuban team. Pérez Pardo.
"Although we recognize these gestures as positive steps, it is necessary to point out that they were the only fair solution to the issue.
“It is arbitrary and discriminatory that a permit from the United States Government is needed for the organizers of a sporting event to guarantee the participation of a country like Cuba, which is not only the founder of these contests, but also that he also earned money.
"It is equally unfair that Cuban athletes, because the ones we are going to summon are Cubans, They were trained in our country and who, despite all the pressures, want to represent their people, also depend on authorization from the US Government to fulfill their dream of playing with the country that hosts them. He saw his birth,” he added. said the president of the FCB.
"We want to recognize and thank the work of the MLB and the World Baseball and Softball Confederation in their role as organizers of the Classic. Cuba continues its preparation,” the minister concluded. Pérez Pardo.
