Unlike the standard Peugeot 205, the Turbo 16 variant is rear-engined and all-wheel drive. It is equipped with a 200-horsepower turbo four and can reach 220 km/h.
In the UK, a 1984 Peugeot 205 was auctioned by RM Sotheby's. They plan to get 180-220 thousand pounds sterling ($210,000 – 250,000) for the car. This is reported by the official website of the auction house.
The fact is that not a simple B-class hatchback, but a very rare version of the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 will go under the hammer. In fact, this a serial version of a rally car and it is radically different from the standard 205th.
Only 200 Peugeot 205 Turbo 16s were produced in total – that is how many cars were required to qualify the model for the World Rally Championship. The bodywork company Heuliez took part in the development of the car.
The design of the Peugeot 205 has been seriously altered. Let's start with the fact that the engine is installed not in the front, but in the back – just like in the rally version. The engine itself is also special – a 1.8-liter turbocharged four develops 200 hp. s.
With a 5-speed manual transmission from Citroen SM, a charged hatchback accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and develops 220 km/h, that is, for its time it was very fast – at the level Porsche 911 of those years. In addition, the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 is all-wheel drive.
This particular hatchback is very well preserved, because the current owner kept it in the garage for the last 18 years and very rarely went out on the roads. Car mileage – 40 thousand km.
