Death in Tafisa: the DPCP does not bring charges against the police officers of the SQ
The murder was committed on March 21, 2022 at the Tafisa factory.
There will be no charges brought against the police officers of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) involved in the case of the murder which occurred at the Tafisa factory, in Lac-Mégantic, in March 2022. The Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) has concluded that the evidence provided by the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), following its investigation, does not “disclose the commission of a criminal offence”.

The BEI had announced on March 28, 2022, a week after the murder, that it was launching an investigation into the intervention of the SQ police officers.
< p class="e-p">According to information that was then published on the BEI's website, an employee of an insurance company contacted the SQ. She would have spoken with a police officer to report to him that one of his clients had made disturbing remarks, in particular threatening to physically attack someone.
This same individual then went to the Tafisa factory and allegedly killed 36-year-old Alexandre Giroux.
The DPCP explains that it will not comment further so as not to undermine the fairness and integrity of the judicial process. He points out, however, that a summary will be published summarizing the facts that occurred during this event and explaining the reasons in support of the DPCP's decision.
Mathieu Maheu-Dumont was charged premeditated murder in this case. The victim was his immediate superior, who had given him a disciplinary sanction three days before the homicide.
