Catherine Laborde's family announced the death of the former TF1 weather presenter on January 28, 2025. A few years ago, she revealed that she suffered from Lewy body disease, a serious neurological disorder.

Catherine Laporte has died, her family announced on Tuesday. The former TF1 weather presenter was affected by a little-known disease: Lewy body dementia, or Lewy body disease. The host was also affected by Parkinson's syndrome.

What is it about?

“Lewy body dementia is the second most common neurodegenerative dementia after Alzheimer's disease,” indicates the Brain Foundation on its website.

This pathology mainly affects “the parts of the brain linked to cognitive functions and movement”. Also, people who suffer from it have symptoms such as memory loss, cognitive disorders or even hallucinations.

Lewy body dementia is also characterized by a usually more rapid progression than Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease, and by a marked deterioration of mental faculties. In the long term, it leads to a loss of autonomy. For the moment, there is no specific treatment for this neurodegenerative disease.

“You left peacefully”

“You left peacefully to your house on the Ile d'Yeu that you loved so much”, declared her sister, the journalist Françoise Laborde, in a message sent to AFP.

Before her television career, she studied literature and theater. She also acted in a few theater and film productions before turning to television.

In January 2017, Catherine Laborde left her job as a weather presenter in an emotional on-air announcement. Shortly after, she revealed that she had Parkinson's disease and Lewy syndrome, complex neurological disorders.

In addition to her television career, Catherine Laborde is also an author. She has written several books, some of which discuss her life, career, and struggle with the disease. Notably “L'amour malade”, co-written with her husband Thomas Stern. Her sincerity and courage in dealing with her illness have earned much admiration in France.
